THE HOWUM
The Heartlands of Wales Ultra Marathon
MAY 1ST 2027
Great news! The best one-day ultramarathon in Wales just got better! As part of our 10th Anniversary celebrations, the HOWUM (Heartlands of Wales Ultra Marathon) trail race has been tweaked to include even more awesome views of our favourite mid-Wales landscape.
LLANIDLOES
Llanidloes is a place where history and wilderness come together. From its historic market streets and timber-framed buildings to the rolling hills and vast Cambrian Mountains beyond, this characterful Welsh town is a gateway to adventure. Expect quiet valleys, sweeping ridgelines and some of the wildest scenery in Wales — every mile filling your lungs with crisp mountain air, your eyes with unforgettable views and your heart with the desire to keep exploring.
Point of interest – PUMLUMON
In a new twist for 2027, we head into the Pumlumon massif, the source of three of great Welsh rivers. We climb over Pumlumon Fawr (752m), Pen Pumlumon Llygad-Bychan (727m) and Pen Pumlumon Arwystli (741m), the three highest points of the massif, from which there are views of Nant-y-Moch Reservoir and Llyn Llygad Rheidiol glacial lake.
We descend from here, through the Hafren Forest and along Glyndwr’s Way towards the spectacular Llyn Clywedog Reservoir.
